The purpose of the project charter is to communicate the objectives, scope, overall approach and criteria for project success to all project stake holders. Though each project is a unique undertaking, all project charters share common elements. This template, designed by Microsoft, documents these common elements and provides the project manager with a framework for defining the charter document.
